The strength of our economy rests on two pedestals: the growth of techcentric, hard-driving start-up firms -- e.g., Microsoft, Genentech, Hewlett-Packard -- shepherded from birth to IPO by U.S. venture capitalists, and U.S. supremacy in corporate finance, with Wall Street as the epicenter of global financial activity.
